Top 5 Ways to Transport Your Belongings When Moving to the Philippines

The Philippines, technically known as the Republic of the Philippines, is an island nation. In total, there are 7,107 different islands which make up the country. Each one offers something a little different, but you can expect to find stunning sandy beaches, a laid back way of life and an incredible tropical climate across the Philippines.

If you’re looking to join the 100 million people already living in the region, you’ll need to find a way to get your belongings to your new home. Here are the top five ways to send your possessions across the world.

Sea Freight

If you need to import from China or anywhere else in the world, sea freight is by far the most cost-effective solution. Logistically, sea freight is the best option if you’ve got time on your side. If you need to relocate immediately for a job, waiting several weeks or even months for your belongings to arrive isn’t going to work for you.

However, this delay could provide you with the time you need to prepare everything else for your move, and sea freight is great for packing up your entire home and moving it to the Philippines in one go.

Air Freight

By far the most popular option for relocating is air freight. It’s quick and easy, getting your belongings to the airport in minimal time. However, convenience does come at a cost and you’ll find that air freight is far more expensive than sea freight.

There are also obvious weight restrictions which apply to shipping belongings by air, so you’ll struggle to transport large items of furniture and may need to arrange sea freight anyway. Like anything, there are definitely pros and cons to weigh up!

Airline Baggage

If you’re relocating for a completely fresh start, and don’t want to take all of your belongings with you, you may be able to get away with using airline baggage. This option is only practical for young people who haven’t moved out yet, or those who have sold most of their worldly belongings, but it is possible to buy a cheap airline ticket and add a large baggage allowance.

You might need to take multiple trips, but this is one way to keep costs down and get your possessions to the Philippines.

Road Freight

Given that the Philippines is an island country, this option is only really available if you’re relocating within the local area. There are a number of reliable companies based in the country who will help you to move your belongings by road to your new home. This takes the stress out of hiring a moving van and there are a variety of options to choose from, such as door-to-door delivery or collection from a dedicated depot.

Rail Freight

This option isn’t currently available, but in the future rail freight could well be a valid option for people transporting their belongings around the Philippines. There are plans in place for a rail freight connection between the main Luzon ports.

These infrastructure improvements could see connections made between Manila and Batangas Port, which would make transport from the ports seamless and will reduce the dependence on road freight in the country.
