6 Top Tips for First Time Flyers in the Philippines

Since I’ve made my first blog post “5 Steps and Tips for First Time Domestic Flyers in Mactan-Cebu International Airport” which is about going through the airport in Mactan Cebu, I have comments and messages on my fan page asking for tips and guide on how to fly at the airport for the first time.

I kind of relate to that feeling since I’ve been there and I know it’s scary so it’s been my mission then to be able to help others who are not that confident in flying for the first time. So I then made a video blog on going through the airport and have the travel blog post on “First Time Flyer Guide in Mactan Cebu Airport (Domestic/2017)”, and I got a lot more questions.

6 Top Tips for First Time Flyers in the Philippines

To help out, and as a Philippines travel blogger I thought it's just right to finally make a video on my Tips for First Time Flyers. So watch it here!

For those who wants texts instead of hearing me and seeing my ugly face here’s a quick note from the video.

#1 SCREENSHOT/ TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR TICKET

You don’t have to print out your ticket, you can just have the screenshot of it or download your ticket on your phone. If you’ve booked it through an agency, make sure you’re able to take a picture of it and save it so just in case you lost it you still have a copy of it.

#2 BE AT THE AIRPORT 2 HOURS BEFORE THE FLIGHT.

Be at the airport 2 hours before the flight, not leave from your home, hotel, or somewhere 2 hours before your flight. The check in counters will close 45 minutes before the flight, and remember that there are times that there are too many people in the airport and you must go through inspection for security.

#3 TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WEB CHECK-IN

If you don’t have a baggage to check-in and if you feel like you’ll not be able to be there in the airport 2 hours before take advantage of the web check-in.
For those who don’t have any baggage to check-in you can go directly to your gate, since the ticket that the web check-in provided you will serve as your boarding pass.

#4 BAGGAGE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE TICKET (EXCEPT FROM PHILIPPINE AIRLINES)

Check-in baggage is not included in your ticket except for Philippine airlines that includes 15-20 kilos of check-in bags. But all airlines will allow you to have a carry-on bag of 7 kilos for free.

Watch this video on CARRY ON BAGGAGE.

#5 GATE NUMBER AND SEAT NUMBER IS ON THE TICKET AND BOARDING PASS.

You can easily find your seat and gate number at the boarding pass given to you.

#6 KINDLY ASK THE CHECK-IN COUNTER PERSON TO SIT YOU ON YOUR PREFERRED SEAT.

Airlines will ask for another fee if you want to make sure a seat is reserved for you that is except for Philippine airlines that includes seat reservation already in your ticket – that’s why now I prefer flying with Philippine airlines though I wish they have more destinations and time slots in flying in and out in a destination.

You can ask the check-in counter lady to sit you on your preferred seat, but this is not always a guarantee since it will depend on what are the seats available. So if you want to make sure, be there early and check-in early. This is with no charge and just for free.

I think these are important for first time flyers to know. But if you want to find out more or have any more questions about flying for the first time. Please feel free to ask and I'll do my best as your Cebu travel blogger!
