ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 - Zenfone 5 Comparison and Review

I’m a Zenfone 5 user since last year, and there are times that my posts here on the Exotic Philippines blog contains photos taken by my Zenfone 5 phone.

I’m happy with my Zenfone 5, but I was still thinking of upgrading my phone because I felt like I need a better quality of photo taken because there are times that I’m too lazy to bring my Canon DSLR or even my GoPro to event invites or special occasions.

But then, got an early gift with a knock on the door saying there’s a package for me, and when I opened it, it was the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 which is super cool – just saying it all first.

There are a lot of Zenfones already out there, there are some that I was thinking of getting but way too beyond my budget. I don’t like buying phones that costs more than a laptop because I felt like it’s not realistic at all. Good thing, ASUS has their affordable Zenfones in line and one of which is the Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0.

But before anything else, you might ask why I’m sharing this here on the travel blog, well it’s because I do consider the smartphones as one of the travel gadgets (the new segment here in the blog). Actually, it’s the number 1 travel gadget that I can’t live without.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0

There are a lot to say about this awesome smartphone, and I’ll be sharing on my other blog (tech blog) soon some great features that I love about this phone.

But first of, you might ask why the phone is called "Laser" and "5.0". The 5.0 (I do believe) is not called or referring to the laser, but because of it's 5 inches display (720x1280p) and the laser is it's awesome feature, the auto laser focus for the camera.

ASUS Zenfone 5 vs Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 Specification

You may find the official ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 specifications and the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 specifications on the ASUS official website. But let me highlight or share with you here these phones specs that I think you want to know about.

Yes, you've read it right. The ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 price in the Philippines is only P7,296. The Zenfone 5 is selling for almost P7,000 now but way back when I bought mine it was almost P8,000.

As a travel blogger myself, I need a phone or I’m looking for a phone that could at least take a good photo, for social media, documenting, or blog post sake. Let me share with you one photo for each camera from both smartphones.

First, let's check the front camera. Let's compare the front camera for both phones.

The photo is taken in the afternoon at the ferry boat from Cebu city to Lapu-Lapu City here in Cebu Philippines.

As you can see I was looking at the Zenfone 5 phone because I am trying to focus it somewhere so the guys at the back will be seen. At first it (Zenfone 5) was focusing at the waters, not us - so we were like all black at the Zenfone 5. Meanwhile, at the Zenfone 2 Laser I have no problem with it at all. It focuses on us automatically with no problems.

Also, you might noticed that the photo from the Zenfone 5 is closer. Both phones are actually held up together, side by side. I actually tilted it a bit so my eyes could at least be seen. The Zenfone 2 front camera has a more wider coverage which is totally awesome. It's a great selfie opportunity anywhere and anyone for me.

Here's another selfie that I took at home, so you can tell the difference for the colors taken by each of the phone.

I actually shared this photo on all my social media accounts. It's that day when I got the phone. As you can see, the Zenfone 2 has more richer in color, with both cameras has "beautification" turned on.

It was also easier for me to take the selfie with the Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 because of it's rear keys that can also be used to adjust the volume.

Now, time to compare the rear camera. I only have 1 photo to compare these 2 with, (sorry, I've been having fun more lately with Zenfone 2 but will try to update the post when my Mama's orchids are all in bloom.) just to let you see which camera's better.

It was so easy for me to take the photo above. All I just did is face the camera to the orchid flower, and it automatically zooms, and I took the photo. Meanwhile, it's not the case with the other phone.

It took me awhile to take this shot. I was holding the other phone on my other hand. I have to put the other phone on my pocket so I can use the other hand to focus on the flowers. I also have to landscape the photo orientation just to get this shot. There are also a certain position wherein the camera won't let me take the photo - as I understand it, it's because it's too near to the camera when it's not that near.

One of the things I've also noticed is that the Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 display is way much better than the Zenfone 5. When I first used the Zenfone 2, I made almost all the settings the same with my Zenfone 5, and this is what I saw.

I'm not sure if there's something I've done with my Zenfone 5 but again, the display of the Zenfone 2 is a lot richer than the Zenfone 5 phone. I believe it's because of it's ASUS Truvivid technology and full screen lamination.

This feature eliminates 2 of the 4 layers (which Is the usual layers between our eyes and the LCD module) and to minimize reflectiveness and maximize clarifty, brightness, and touch responsiveness, providing an extremely comfortable and enjoyable viewing experience.

ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 ZE500KL Review

The ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 5.0 is definitely the best choice if you’re looking for an affordable phone with great features. If you’re asking if it’s better than the Zenfone 5? Definitely!

What I love most about this phone is obviously the camera. It's way better than the Zenfone 5 even though they have the same megapixels (at the rear camera). It has more great quality of color, it's "super" easy to take photos that you want to take in an instant because of it's LASER FOCUS (focusing within 0.3 seconds - yeap! super true.), the wider coverage of the camera, and of course the easy way on taking the selfie.

But the only problem (for me) for this phone is that the volume of its speakers, is not as loud as the Zenfone 5. As for someone who’s like me (can’t hear well) you might be able to find it hard to hear the videos you’ve recorded even at full volume. But the rest about this phone, is way better than the Zenfone 5.
